For Hosting Customers – VMware’s vSphere Delivers – Performance

July 11th, 2010

VMware’s virtual server and data center products, from their enterprise computing inspired VMware Infrastructure to their free bare-metal hypervisor ESXi, are known for providing reliable, flexible, and cost-effective platforms for creating, managing and running virtual machines on physical servers. For hosting customers, VMware ESX version 3 offered better performance than other virtual server hosting platforms, allowing the creation of more virtual servers per physical server than other environments.

While VMware Infrastructure took over the enterprise, hosting customers hesitated in virtualizing their largest application servers. To address their performance concerns, VMware rebuilt ESX for version 4, giving it the ability to process more and communicate faster, optimizing it for business applications, and increasing its speed and capacity for iSCSI storage operations. The result is vSphere.

vSphere is for Application Servers

With vSphere, hosting customers get more for their money compared to non-VMware-based hosting and even ESX 3 hosts. They get up to 8-way virtual SMP (symmetric multiprocessing) and 255 gigabytes of RAM; 8,900 database transactions per second, 200,000 I/O operations per second, and up to 16,000 Exchange mailboxes per host; increased iSCSI capacity; and support for 10 gigabit per second Ethernet.

The numbers are impressive, but what matters is what it can do for application server performance, storage performance, server responsiveness, and messaging speed.

vSphere Features 8-way SMP

vSphere allows a single virtual machine to use up to eight physical processor cores simultaneously, enabling the virtualization of CPU-intensive applications like databases, ERP, and CRM. For you, that means your company’s hosted virtual server can be used with your most demanding applications, the ones you thought would always be the source of either extremely costly server investments or slowdowns and user frustration.

vSphere is optimized to support business-critical applications, including Oracle databases, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Exchange. Applications you thought would always need to be run in-house can now be hosted remotely, so that you can get on with your own business, instead of getting bogged down in IT.

Increased iSCSI I/O

vSphere increases iSCSI input/output performance through optimized SCSI drivers and VMkernel-level storage stack optimizations. Optimized iSCSI allows messaging applications and databases to access data more rapidly. This can improve everything from your company’s internal communications to customer response times.

10 Gbps Ethernet

By adding support for 10 gbps Ethernet, hosts running vSphere can connect to storage over redundant 10 gbps links instead of link-aggregated 1 gbps Ethernet. This enables higher performance access to NFS and iSCSI storage, giving hosted servers increased application performance. And for those customers with multi-server deployments, intra server communication is now many times faster than before.

Where It Counts

VMware’s vSphere offers performance features to hosted companies that allow faster access, better communication among applications running on multiple virtual machines, and faster response times. Together, these features result in increased productivity, higher ROI, and more customer satisfaction—the kind of numbers your company is looking for.

Vmware And Vsphere: Learning From Dvds

July 10th, 2010

The first thing you should know is what VMware is. VMware is a type of training that IT professionals use in order to obtain a certification in security development systems and other advanced computer network functions. VMware or Vsphere is designed to be able to better manage your IT infrastructure.

There are several online courses a professional can take in order to get this certification. Most of the online courses offer classes in virtualization as well as Vsphere training. Individuals looking to take an online course should make sure that the certification that is offered is something that is going to be accepted by your organization or agency. VMware training can also consist of storage, systems and any number of things, so an individual looking to take the training should make sure the particular course they take will deliver the in-depth training they need and will be valued by your agency.

There are also many different price ranges of the Vsphere training available and it is fairly expensive. One should investigate to make sure that the money is well spent, and that the training options you desire are present. Price ranges of online courses or public sessions as wells as those that can be delivered to your agency range from about 350 dollars to well over 2,000 dollars. Most of the online courses offer certification in VMware and these are valuable to an employer.

There are also several levels of VMware training available. One can take a basic essxi 4.0 ESX 4.0 and vsphere 4.0 course or certification and then take advanced VMware training later on. In conclusion, there are many opportunities to take VMware training. Look carefully online before committing to a particular provider or course.

VCP-410: How to certify with VMware certified professionals on vSphere 4 examination?

July 7th, 2010

VCP-410 is also known as VCP 4 (VMware certified professionals on vSphere 4). This certification is designed for the professionals who are from the information technology background interested in ensuring about the value and integrity of VCP certification. Pearson VUE has taken control for this examination recently and therefore, candidates should register in Pearson VUE website online or in any of the Pearson VUE centers.

Possible ways to certify with VCP-410 certification:

Candidates can pass / certify with this certification in 4 possible methods and each methods differs in different conditions. They are as follows:

1) If the candidates are attending the VCP-410 examination for the first time, then it is mandatory that the candidates should attend a course conducted by VMware called as vSphere- install, manage, configure or VMware: troubleshoot. After attending this instructional led course, candidates can register for VCP-410 examination
2) If the candidates are holding VCP 3 certification, then an upgrade has to be done that is two days instruction led course called “VMware vSphere- what’s new”. After successful completion of this course, candidates can register for VCP-410 examination
3) If the candidates are holding their VCP 2 certification, then it is mandatory that the candidates should attend a course conducted by VMware called as vSphere- install, manage, configure or VMware: troubleshoot. After attending this instructional led course, candidates can register for VCP-410 examination
4) Finally, if candidates have their VCP 3 certification but not with any one of these prerequisites (fast track VI3, Install and configure VI3, deploying, securing and analyzing- VI3), then an upgrade is necessary for the candidates by attending two days instructor led course called VMware vSphere- what’s new. After the mandatory upgrade is done, candidates can apply with VCP-410 examination

Prerequisites for the examination:

For writing this examination, candidates should hold at least VCP 2 or VCP 3 certification. If no certifications, then an instructor led course has to be attended by the candidates called as VMware vSphere: troubleshoot.

Exam registration procedure:

Since VMware certifications are recently added in Pearson VUE, candidates should register for VCP-410 certification examination in their nearby Pearson VUE centers. Registration procedures can be done in online through the Pearson VUE website by paying the exam fee. Scheduling for the examination can be done according to the candidate’s convenience after paying the exam fee.
