How to properly remove VMware fusion

In VMware Fusion you can use your favorite Windows programs and peripherals and Intel-based problem on any Mac. Through the uncompromising Mac-orientation is VMware Fusion is the easiest way to switch to the Mac. You can take all your Windows applications and thus draw the most from your investment in Windows software. At the same time take advantage of perfect security in change. It breaks down the barriers between Windows and Mac.

VMware, known for its products dedicated to virtualization, has released a beta of Fusion 3.1. The menu will feature many improvements in several areas, just to better compete with its main competitor on Mac OS X: Parallels. The development of VMware Fusion 3.1 is nearly complete. The publisher offers to download a Release Candidate of its virtualization solution. Compared to the beta that was put online in March , this version [ 3.1RC - form - Mac OS X 10.5 - VF] is presented as being more responsive. Virtual machines out of sleep faster disk access and have been improved.

The process of creating virtual machine has been largely automated, allowing you to choose the mode of creation: one that mirrors the records office, documents, pictures, music. The second leaves the virtual machine in complete isolation to enable or disable the sharing Mac. Obviously, Fusion adds support for Windows Seven, but especially the support mode Aero. The recovery engine is optimized Parallels and management scores Boot Camp. Accelerated Graphics now supports Direct X9 and Open GL 2.1, which will allow support for newer games. Fusion 3 wins the physical recovery of PC hardware, through the network by installing a little software on the PC. Now the keyboard support is complete, with one hand, the Mac keyboard shortcuts such as command Z, S command and so forth, but also the complete mapping of the keyboard with the proper positioning of the buttons or indent: no need install Boot Camp drivers.

Copy and paste is possible within applications, without returning to the office. The Dock icon provides access to a part in the library of virtual machines, but also PC applications. In addition to generally making the startup and sleep faster, the awakening of a machine can now be interrupted. Note also the possibility, even when a machine is paused, mount the hard drive as a disk image on the Mac. The Overview modes, full screen and Unity have been optimized. Full screen mode barrier to a command bar that allows access to various settings. A keyboard shortcut and an animation of state change as the finishing touch.

Unity mode has become very fluid and less consumer. Presentation is of course supported, but it’s the Dock Expose feature which makes its appearance, the Dock icons for PC applications now following the same behavior as the Mac. Thus, when a window has focus PC is the title of the application it appears that member in the menu bar, and not the menu VMware Fusion. Suddenly, the TAB command shows each PC application as independent as many icons that you can exit by typing Q. It is possible to customize the launcher and to integrate and selected applications.

How to Complete uninstall of VMware Server on Windows :

During the installation of VMware Server 1.0.5 on a Windows 2000 is a disk crashed and caused so rubbish on the IDE bus, the installation was aborted on the task manager, as no progress was observed more. Once the hardware defect was corrected, I wanted to make up the installation. However, I got to see the following message:

VMware Server Standalone – Setup has detected that VMware standalone server is already installed on this machine.

First Solution :

To remove an existing VMware Server installation in full accordance with the following command :
The installation was then no longer possible. What I’ve tried everything. Again one again failed
Uninstalling on software was not possible, no entry
A uninstall.exe or something like it was not in the VMware directory
Delete all directories that are related to VMware and then manually clean the registry had no success
Uninstalling the VMware hardware such as network cards has brought nothing
vmware-install-file.exe /C command fix the installation issue.

After several hours of searching I found this :

A simple vmware-installationsfile.exe causes a force removal of the files once you delete that file then the removal was without problems.

Incase if you want that back :
VMware Server installation file to C: \ copy
Date in vmware.exe rename
Click Start, then Run and type cmd, and then press enter
The MS-DOS will opens. Here, the following command:
C: \ vmware.exe / c
Give next question with Yes to confirm and complete.
Second Method ( Ubuntu ) :

After a hard drive problem I was having the damaged Windows VMware Server does not install properly. A new installation is stopped . Here is a way to remove this completely from Linux machine. To uninstall VMware Player, first close all virtual machines that may be running. Then open a terminal and run the VMware-install with administrative rights.

Now you know the name of the product to uninstall. For this, type the following command:
~ $ Sudo vmware-install-l. Hit enter.
Locate the name of the product installed, then in a terminal, type: ~ $ sudo vmware-install vmware-workstation-u
uninstall vmware-workstation. You can also run the install file. Bundle It will detect that VMware is already installed and will proceed to uninstall it by typing: sudo VMware-Player-xxx-xxxxxx.i386.bundle

How to expand/resize/extend C drive VMware Server within several minutes?

July 21st, 2010

Why resize/extend C drive VMware Server?

VMware is the most popular Virtual Machine software for now. It is easy to use and works like a physical computer. The most common problem of VMware is related to disk partition space. For example, after a period of time, you may find the system C drive running out space, so you have to resize/extend C drive VMware Server. To most of the people, it is extremely hard to extend C drive on VMware Server.

Common VMware Server disk partition space problem

1. As I mentioned above, the system C drive runs out of space and you need to resize or expand VMware Server partitions.
2. C drive and the entire virtual disk is low disk space, so you cannot extend C drive VMware Server by resizing other data partitions.
3. Though VMware is virtual machine, it will use the physical partition space. When there is no free space on this physical partition, what will you do? Delete this partition including the VMware Server? No, no one wants to do this, in this article, I’ll tell the easy method – extend this partition directly without data loss.
In the next paragraphs, I’ll tell you how to solve these problems one by one.

How to extend C drive VMware Server?

Step 1: Install Partition Wizard in your VMware Server and launch it, right-click the data partition and select “Move/Resize” to shrink this partition.

In the pop up window, drag the left borderline of this data partition rightwards.

After step 1, there will be Unallocated space created behind the system partition.

Step 2: Right-click the system C drive and select “Move/Resize”. In the pop up window, drag the right borderline rightwards.

Now the system partition has been extended, click “Apply”.

How to extend C drive and entire disk space?

As I mentioned above, if there is no free space in other data partition, you cannot extend C drive by shrinking the data partition, you need to extend the entire virtual disk space firstly. After that, you will get Unallocated space to extend C drive.
Steps to extend entire hard disk:

Step1: Open up Run dialogue from the start menu (Start -> Run) or hold down the Windows key and press R. Type “cmd” and hit enter to open up the Command Prompt.
Step2: Run VMware disk manager tool, the format is like this: “AA\vmware-vdiskmanager.exe” –x BB.GB(MB) “CC\DD.VMDK”.
AA: The absolute path of vmware-vdiskmanager.exe
BB: What size you want to extend the VMware virtual disk to
CC: The absolute path of the virtual disk you want to extend
DD: The name of the virtual disk want to extend

Input the command and press enter to proceed, after that, the virtual disk will be extended and there will be “BB.GB(MB) Unallocated space at the end of the virtual disk.

Step3: Follow the steps of “How to extend C drive VMware Server?” and the second problem could be solved.

To solve the third problem, it is very easy, too. Just install Partition Wizard on the physical computer and resize the partitions.

Run Ubuntu in Windows 7 with VMware Player

July 15th, 2010

Are you just a Windows 7 user and and you need to use Ubuntu Linux programs? Well, maybe a software can help you…named VMware Player, a free software which lets you evaluate new or pre-release software contained in virtual machines. What’s more, it allows users easily run virtual machines on Windows 7, Vista, XP or Linux PC. Today we will take a look at how to run Ubuntu in Windows 7 with VMware Player.

Getting Started
Just download and install VMware Player (link below). Alought it is a free download, it requires registration.

Maybe you will see some prompts about installing drivers(but it is not absolute)…just approve them. Once finished installing, you will have to restart your computer.

Install Ubuntu

Once you have installed VMware Player and downloaded Ubuntu, you’re ready to setup Ubuntu. Just open VMware Player and click the link “Create a New Virtual Machine.”

Here you can install Ubuntu from a disk or directly from the ISO file you can download (link below). This is the simplest method if you just want to use Ubuntu in VMware Player. However, if you do have an Ubuntu disk, then feel free to choose that instead. Once you’ve selected your install media, VMware Player will automatically detect Ubuntu and will show that it will be installed with Easy Install. Simply click “next” to continue.

Type in your full name, user name, and password (which are required).

Note: The username can only have lowercase characters and numbers.

Note: Tthe password must be at least 8 characters long.

After that, choose a name for your virtual machine and select where to save it. Simply click “next” to accept the defaults.

You can adjust how large you want your virtual hard drive to be (the default is 20Gb, but you can choose a different size if you wish).

Note: Actually the entire 20Gb will not be used up on your hard drive initially. Ours only took up 3.6Gb with a clean install, but this will increase as you install programs and save files.

Now you can review your settings and change them if you wish, or simply click “Finish” to start installing Ubuntu…

Now VMware player will install Ubuntu without any further input. The window may show cryptic commands, but don’t worry, as you don’t have to do anything else to install Ubuntu.

During the installation, you may be prompted to download and install VMware tools for Linux. Just click “Download” and the tools will automatically download and install (though you may have to approve the UAC prompt).

Of course, VMware will continue installing Ubuntu even while the tools are downloading. You will be presented with your Ubuntu login screen after the install is finished. In this example, the full install took about 30 minutes.

Select your user name, then enter your password to access Ubuntu.

Welcome to your Ubuntu desktop!

How to Install VMware Tools

Generally VMware Player will automatically install the VMware tools into Ubuntu during the initial setup…but sometimes this doesn’t work. At least…in our test, the tools failed to install during the Ubuntu setup because our internet connection was down. So if it doesn’t, you should follow the following steps to install them.

In order to install the tools, click “VM” and then select “Install VMware Tools” in the menu.

In the File Browser window, double click on the VMwareTools icon (which looks like a box that says tar.gz on the front).

Then the compressed file will open. Click the “Extract” button at the top of the window.

Now choose where to save the files. Simply click “Desktop” on the left, and then click “Extract”.

This will take a moment…wait for a while patiently. When the files are extracted, click “Close”.

Then click the “Applications” menu at the top of the screen, choose “Accessories”, and then click “Terminal”.

Enter the following to access the files you unzipped before:

cd ./Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib

Now enter:

sudo bash

Then enter your password when prompted.

Note: Tthe password will not show while you are typing it in…just type it in and press Enter when completed.

Now we can install the VMware tools. To achieve this, enter:

./vmware-install.pl

and then simply press enter at the prompts to accept the defaults. It should ask a total of 5 questions, and just press enter at all of them.

Then it may ask the following questions about documentation files…just press enter again at each prompt.

Now the installation is completed. Since you will still need to configure the tools, simply enter “yes” at the prompt to automatically do that.

It may ask you to enable an experimental backup feature…simply entered “no” at this prompt.

It will want to setup the graphics configurations. Enter “yes” at the prompt. Your screen may flicker or go black momentarily while it is changing these settings.

You will see the following message when the install is completed at last.

Finally restart Ubuntu by clicking on the button with your username at the top right, and then selecting Restart from the menu.

Login to Ubuntu as before and your setup is complete once your virtual machine has rebooted.

Integrate Ubuntu with Windows 7

Normally you can already use all of Ubuntu’s tools and features directly from the Ubuntu desktop in VMware Player. But you need to activate Unity mode if you would like to use your Ubuntu programs seamlessly in Windows. Click “VM” and then Unity Mode in the VMware Player Menu.

Now you will have an Ubuntu menu right above your Windows 7 Start button.

The Ubuntu windows will have a border and VMware logo on them by default.

In order to change this, click “VM” and then “Settings”, select the “Options” tab, and uncheck the boxes “Show borders” and “Show badges” .

Now the windows will look just like they do in Ubuntu.

You can run Ubuntu windows side-by-side with Windows 7 windows…and can copy and paste, drag-and-drop between the windows, and more…The Ubuntu programs’ icons show up in the taskbar the same as normal Windows programs.

Now you can access all of the files in your Ubuntu virtual machine from the Ubuntu menu. Click “Other”, and then click “Computer” or “Home Folder”.

Note: This would work the exact same on any modern version of Windows, including all editions of XP and Vista. In this tutorial we used Ubuntu 9.10, but other recent editions should work the same.

Vmware Jumps Forward In Backup-Aarkstore Enterprise

July 13th, 2010

Backup is often complex and laborious work – one of the biggest pains in IT. It is not a glamorous activity because it does not deliver any improvement to businesses’ top lines and is, indeed, an expense that reduces the bottom line. Even when it does its job by averting disaster, it simply maintains the status quo. However, it is essential.

The basic management considerations for backup are the same in the physical and virtual worlds. Server virtualisation in itself does not complicate backup, but its sizeable benefit of hardware consolidation makes life harder for backup administrators. Alongside this, virtual server sprawl increases backup workload because it creates many more servers to administer. These two issues exist regardless of the virtualisation platform and, arguably, virtualisation has turned back the clock for backup. Vendors are still working to put this situation right with architectural changes to backup systems.

In 2007, VMware eased backup problems for its customers by launching its free VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) framework. However, VCB was not ideal, as it required customers to install more complicated backup systems for their virtual servers than for their physical servers.

This year VMware launched a successor to VCB called vStorage APIs for Data Protection (VADP). VADP is a major step forward, enthusiastically endorsed by third-party suppliers of backup software. It will be a significant competitive advantage for VMware and benefit the company’s customers, because it will greatly simplify backup of their virtual servers.

Benefits of Outsourcing VMware Hosting

July 12th, 2010

Looking for a reliable hosting solution these days is like looking for needles in a haystack. The confusing thing is you are not sure of what requirements each company has and what could work for you. There are tons of hosting plans but for this article, we will be focusing on the different types of hosting available in the market. There are 3 major types of hosting on the market and the top among these are the shared hosting, dedicated hosting and VMware hosting. VMware hosting is unlike the normal hosting packages where you need a lot of resources such as hardware, operating system et.c.

A VMware hosting package is necessary when you intend to get an in-house server where you can easily manage it and all the data on it. The benefits of VMware hosting are numerous and some of these include:

1. Cheap to manage
Unlike dedicated and shared hosting, VMware virtualized hosting does not cost much to set up. The need for an operating system and physical server is virtually eliminated and it often does the job far more effectively considering its convenience.

2. Can be Combined with physical servers
Because of its dynamic nature, it can be combined with physical servers, thus making your hosting and data far more reliable than if it were done by just physical servers alone. Because the server is virtualized, there is less clumsiness and more data safety as you are then generating different or a more virtualized network that can be monitored or controlled from one location. This single step can help you save up on costs attached to physical server installation while diverting the amount of time and manpower that could have been used for that into other more productive processes.

3. Data security and assurance
Nothing is worse than not being able to access your data at the time you need it. Therefore, using outsourcing your VMware hosting ensures that not only are those data available, in case of server down times, you can quickly back up your data on different servers across different locations thus, securing your data and making it possible for you to have your own data centre accessible by you at any time. This data security therefore ensures that no matter what the condition might be, you have peace of mind concerning your data.

4. Reduced Need for Extra Hardware
In situations where you need to install new applications, people who use physical servers often spend a lot of time trying to install on a new server. But with VMware hosting, you do not need all that. You can easily set up and install new applications without worrying about physical servers.

In all, virtualized servers are about the best bargain and cost you far less than you would spend on physical servers. A quick look around will assure you of the veracity of this statement. Therefore, if you really want reliable hosting with failover abilities, then VMware hoisting is the way to go.

SAS 70 certified company provides solutions that will keep your data safe through managed security, disaster recovery solutions, managed IT services, managed hosting, VMware Hosting and other business continuity services.

The Great VMware Workstation 7 is now available!

July 5th, 2010

Well, VMware Workstation 7 is now here. One of the key products of the company in Palo Alto.  Not to mention VMware Workstation was the first Virtualization platforms offered for the X86 architecture. VMware has always succeeded to surprise its users with new amazing feature with each new release of VMware Workstation & VMware Workstation 7 is no exception. I have been thrilled with it since the beta stage, being a beta test.

VMware Workstation 7 bring a ton of new features with it, below is a summary of few of the new features that has called my attention:

Support for Windows Vista Flip 3D / 7. Wow VMware Workstation 7 is the first virtualization platform that supports the Windows Aero 3D graphics. Being the first to support it has amazed me & make me wonder what is Microsoft thinking with Aero 3D graphics being their product. Hello Microsoft!!! Support for Windows 7 in their 32 and 64 bits versions. Better support for 3D applications with DirectX 9.0c and OpenGL graphics Model 2.13D in Windows VMs. We can play more than ever was possible before :-) 4vCPU support and 32GB of RAM per VM … I doubt you would need more, that if you can find a PC or a TP which can support that load of memory. Support VMware ESX 4 and ESXi 4. Stop your manuals and tricks to install ESX. You select the operating system, next, next, yes and enjoy! This is an amazing tool for Virtualization professionals for testing new features in VMware ESX/ESXi 4 as well running demo for customers. Again Hello Microsoft, this is never possible with Hyper-V. Improved Unity mode.  Although this is not totally new to VMware Workstation 7, but the stability & usefulness of it has been dramatically improved in my opinion. I love Unity mode as it allow me to run any Windows application under my Linux Desktop as if they were natively running in Linux. It has helped many people moving to Linux, without having to leave all their Windows apps at once. Ah sure you can do the opposite and get Linux APPs to run simultaneously under windows if you want to. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest features in VMware Workstation J.

Great, you have got this far. Don’t waste more time & head to VMware site & download your VMware Workstation 7 trial & try it out for yourself.
