Arcade And Computer Games Meet

October 31st, 2009

There are many arcade games out on the Internet that kids the age of 6 to 8 years old can play. There are some that are violent so we have chosen not to review those. Kids get so much violence from other influences; we are not supporting that position. The games we ranked were challenging but still could be won if the child had enough hand-eye coordination. Try to encourage them as they play so that they will not get discouraged and quit. Remaining positive is always better for their young growing minds. So let them play the games as we think that games do have a place in a growing child’s realm. They teach so many skills that the child will need in their grown-up lives. There are other ways to teach this same skill, but children seem to learn faster and with less grumbling if they enjoy the method.

The most relaxing and stress free game was Yuniti while the Mini Gallery was the most stressful of all the games we reviewed. Seeing Santa plastered on the snow was funny and while he slid down the ravine he said weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yuniti is a great hand, eye coordination game and it is very relaxing. The child between 4 and 8 can easily play this game. It lasts as long as you can keep the balls from hitting the ground. Even an adult could get to love this addicting game as it is so relaxing. You have a green ball that you are in control of with your arrow keys. When a blue ball floats downward, you bump it with the green ball so that it will go up again. It seems quit tame at first, then, more balls start falling. Within 40 seconds you may have at least 3 or 4 balls falling around the same time. The longer your score time is the better you are at it.

After Glow is a game where you are guiding your ship through several levels while collecting orbs. You must complete each level in the shortest possible amount of time. The levels are based around time and separated into easy mode, medium and hard mode which leaves insane mode for those who have conquered the game. Your score is based on how long it takes you to maneuver through the obstacles. If you accidently hit the wall you are penalized. The harder you hit a wall the more penalties the game will give you. It is diffinently a game of hand and eye coordination and learning to use those arrow keys ceee! This game does take some skills so a child of 6 to 8 could probably learn to play this game.

Mini Gallery is another arcade game that probably a 6 year old to 8 year old would want to play. You have a basket where you want to catch the “good” eggs that are falling from the sky. There are also “bad” eggs falling and you sure do not want those eggs in your basket. If you get a full basket of good eggs, then you click the mouse and cook them. Even on the easy mode, this game was quit challenging as some of the eggs looked good as they were falling, but at the last moment, they cracked open! A child needs to have great hand eye coordination as well as the ability to tell a good egg from a bad egg. This is a short lived game if you cannot maneuver the mouse and differentiate between the good and the bad eggs.

Choices In Computer Games Today

October 28th, 2009

There are many downloadable free online games all over the Internet. These games seem to be very addicting and each game site has some different ones that you can download. Most of these games are harmless to download, but with all the virus scares out these, we have decided to run a virus program on them before opening them and letting them install upon your hard drive.

The first downloadable game (costs $19.95 to download the full version or you may download a smaller version for free) we will review is Dynomite. This game is played by shooting eggs that match by color into the puzzle. There are multiple phases of this game. The first phase is a relaxing and is a slow paced game called Time Trial. If you are looking for a fast, hard, addicting game that lasts forever try out the Endless mode.

There are two other modes of play with this game, Stomped and Fossil Challenge. There are three levels of difficulty; easy, hard and super. This game has hilarious characters which make it more fun to love. They have a tutorial which explains the game, how to play and how to win in great detail. There are also some very crazy sounds and dialog going on during the entire game. This is NOT your typical low volume game. So turn up the speakers and get prepared to laugh! Try to win if you can!!

Cosmic Stacker is a very low volume, easy, relaxing way to spend the evening. It is a journey through space with a beautiful array of colors to boot. In this journey, you are trying to assemble different sized rings into groups that color match. You can either do this at break neck speed trying to stop the advancing rings from reaching the end or you can take your time and strategically try to do the same thing. All the while you are playing; you will be surrounded by beautiful swirls of color, mysterious alien landscapes and a beautiful relaxing soundtrack. We found Cosmic Stacker to be a great game to unwind with after a hard day’s work.

Cosmic Stacker is also a game that you can pay for (19.99) or obtain the shorter version for free.

Anglor is a free game if you want the short version or a paid game if you think you have to have the full version. It uses your puzzle skills to lift an evil curse.

You will be dodging the dreaded, tricky chain traps as you explore ancient ruins in your quest to obtain matching stones and find the pieces of the Amulet of Angkor. Along the way you may use the power of the golden trident to blast the stones apart with lightning. A magical beautiful, glorious golden age waits at the end of your exciting journey. Can you be the one who brings hope to lands of Angkor?

Angkor Deluxe has unlimited play, nine beautiful settings, all the original traps and dangerous pitfalls. There are helpful bonus items along the way so keep a lookout for those as you journey down the beautiful path of glory. This game can last for hours in the full mode, so be prepared!

Five Spots II is the next game available for download. Again for the full version you must pay $19.99 or be satisfied with the short version for free. We always recommend the short version first, just in case you do not like playing the game.

This game is still all about finding the Monkey and the Puzzle modes. These are the modes that are the most fun and addicting to play. If you happen to have Version I and then purchase this Volume II, then you will have the advantage of being able to put together a fully equipped version of 5 spots that will contain all the images from both versions. There are four modes in which you can play. They are super fun classic, find the monkey, leisure and puzzle mode. Each has its good and bad moments, but having all four will get you a good playing time as well as not boring you to death. This game has literally tons of images and random changes.

A Few Sports In Computer Games

October 25th, 2009

What person doesn’t like sports games? They are on the television, radio or if you are lucky enough, you can go see them in the flesh! Going to the outdoor field and watching your favorite team gets the blood rushing, throat sore and the tummy full. You sit there cheering madly for your team, which in turn, phycs them up even more. All humans love the challenge of multi-player games and these are definitely challenging.

The Dart game is based on lowering your score. The score starts at 501 and then you see how many times you must throw the dart to get your score down to 0 and end with a double score or bull’s-eye. Each player throws three darts per round ( remember that there is a time limit on each player as they throw as well as a total time limit). If a player’s total time runs out, the opponent wins.

When you start with 501 points, your score for each throw is subtracted from that total. The trick is to get your score down to a single digit number that is NOT less than two or you bust on that round and it is your opponent’s turn. Don’t whine about having darts left if you bust because that does not matter and to make matters worse, if you bust, you lose all the points scored in that round! This gets a little challenging, but you will just have to think ahead and do the subtraction in your head so that you will know what number to aim for on the dart board. But-don’t hit another dart or the metal edges; your dart will bounce off the board and not give you any points at all.

Playing the game is fairly simple. You must aim with your mouse and click to lock your aim. This action brings up a meter that decides the altitude of your throw. The higher the marker is when you click, the higher your dart will hit the board. In order to hit exactly where you want to, click when the marker is in the middle. Overall this game takes practice and good planning skills when your score gets below 20!

KicKing is timing based football game where you get show off your skills at passing and tactical thinking. Throwing the ball through the opposing team will earn your team 7 rounds of quick play. Grab the powerups to give your team energy as they run towards the goal. This is a football game where crowd pleasing play is awarded more than a solo rush if you want to win.

Each round has a time limit of 35 seconds. If your team (the blue team) does not score a goal before 35 seconds or loses the ball the round is over. When a round starts the ball is always with your goalie at the bottom of the field. The game starts as the opponent closest to the ball starts to run towards your ball. You have to complete a pass before your opponent reaches you. Don’t let them sack you! The goal is to keep passing the ball and make a goal before time runs out.

Your team’s active player has a hexagonal yellow marker around him and a rotating arrow. You do not control the movement of the active player; you can only control his next pass. You first set the direction and then the strength of the pass. After you have made the pass, the player closest to the pass trajectory will start to move towards the best position available that will allow him to catch the ball. If it is a very short pass, the person who threw the pass may also catch it and throw it again.

After releasing the pass, the a path of the ball is shown by two yellow dots. The small dot shows where it will touch ground the first time. Before this point it cannot be intercepted by the opposition as it is in the air. The larger point shows where the ball will stop if it is not caught first. In each round the red team’s players (the opposing team) will get slightly faster.

You must be already planning the next pass while the player is moving. This way he will make a direct pass as soon as he reaches the ball. This planning is important to keep the ball away from the opposing team (red team).

If an opponent intercepts the ball, reaches the final destination before it reaches your player or before you make your next pass you will lose the ball, and the round. If you commit to a pass (release the button to set power) before you reach the ball and reach the ball destination before the opponent you will be able to kick it away even if the opponent reaches you before the ball arrives. If you make a pass out of bounds then round is over.

There are also 2 different power-ups placed in the field. You have to pass a ball through them to collect a power up. This power-up will affect your player for the duration of the round.

You use only your mouse to control the passes. When your player has the ball there is a directional arrow around him. Hitting the left mouse button will lock in the direction of the pass. A successful pass is worth 100 points. If by some strange chance you throw the ball into your goal, instead of the opponents’ goal, you will automatically lose 1000 points! So pay attention and throw the ball through the right goal! A long distance pass always gets the crowd up and cheering. So, if you want to score big, please that cheering crowd as it will give you 300 extra points. This is not the real thing as far as it goes, but it is an interesting game that promote thinking, planning ahead and strategic maneuvers. It probably cannot be played by anyone under the age of 10.

The final sports game we reviewed was Couronne King. It is based off the old tabletop game of Couronne. In this game you need to sink all the green rings with as few shots as possible. The play time has multiple lay-ups all of which are more difficult as the game advances. Your score is determined both by the difficulty of the shot and your speed at which you perform the shots at. There are many different, challenging levels of this game.

For each and every shot you start by placing your yellow ring anywhere along the red line towards the bottom of the table. You then aim your shot with the cue and add strength to shoot the yellow ring.

You may sink the green rings in any of the four holes on the table. This is done with either a direct shot or bouncing them off a wall or other rings. If you sink your yellow ring, it and another green ring will both appear back on top of the table which will cost you a shot. You may hit any ring on the table when it is your turn but sinking a red ring and the green ring in the same shot will be penalized by placing the green ring back on the table top.

After you have sunk all the green rings on the table you will advance to the next level. This new level will start with a different lay-up. To finish and thus win the game you will have to clear all the lay-ups within the time. The end of the game occurs when you have cleared all the lay-ups or time has run out.

If you’re looking for a challenge, check out some of these game options. You might find that your stress level is greatly reduced as well as your reflexes sharpened.

Learning English From Computer Games

October 22nd, 2009

How about those games which teach English for you? They are a great addition to your child’s learning utilities. In these games the child can learn plurals. I am talking about learning that the plural for tooth is teeth and the plurals for face is faces. The child will type in the answer to each word. As they progress the levels get tougher.

Plural Girls is a great game for the beginning child to learn what the plural for words are. There are 4 levels to play. The easiest level is “Fill in the Blank”, then comes “Tough Fill in the Blank”. The harder levels include two games, “Multiple Choice” and “Tough Multiple Choice”. Each has a place in your child’s English program. After finishing a round of each, the game will score the child with a “Clever” if they have just gotten 1/2 of the problems correct. So it is not too harsh for their little egos! Even as an adult, I see that I might need to play this game to review what obviously I missed in my Junior High and High School days. Must have been looking at the boys instead of listening!

The Grammar Girls is based on articles of speech. For the beginner they have nouns and verbs. In this game the computer will give you a sentence with two words in a bright color. One of the words is a noun and one is a verb. It will ask the child to click on the verb. If the child picks the right choice then they get a score added to the correct side.

With the Advanced game the child will have a choice of pronouns, nouns, verbs, conjunctions, adjectives and adverbs. Again the scoring is the same, but this game is so much harder that anyone under the age of 8 might not be equipped for playing it. But, what the heck, it will teach them so that they will be ahead of the game!

Then there is a game called Word Link. This is a giant scramble game where the child can connect letter to form words. After clicking on the letters that are adjacent to each other that spell a word, the letters then form the word in a box on the upper left side. If that is a verified word the child will then click submit and it will give him or her points. There is a timer that is always going so hurry up!!

The game called Keyword is a difficult game and should only be played by a student who has mastered spelling. We don’t mean first grade spelling, we mean a child who has a fairly good vocabulary going! The child is given a set of letters much like Word Link, but is much tougher. He or she must connect the letters that would make a word. Problem is that the first letter much touch the second letter much touch the third. The more letters that the child can combine to make a word the better the score is. This is a very challenging game and probably would be better played with an adult or a teacher. If your child was very good at words he or she could possibly do this alone, but again we suggest parental supervision!

What is “Web 2.0”:

October 20th, 2009

The term “Web 2.0” can be reffered to the extention and ubgradation of “Web 1.0.” It was first coined by Darcy DiNucci in the year 1999. In her article “Fragmented Future,” she argues “The Web we know now, which loads into a browser window in essentially static screenfulls, is only an embryo of the Web to come. The first glimmerings of Web 2.0 are beginning to appear, and we are just starting to see how that embryo might develop The Web will be understood not as screenfulls of text and graphics but as a transport mechanism, the either through which interactivity happens. It will [...] appear on your computer screen, [...] on your TV set [...] your car dashboard [...] your cell phone [...] hand-held game machines [...] maybe even your microwave oven.”

This term deals mainly with Web design and aesthetics; she argues that the Web is “fragmenting” due to the widespread use of portable Web-ready devices. Her article is targeted at designers, prompting them to code for an ever-increasing variety of hardware. As such, her use of the term hints at – but does not directly relate to – the current uses of the term. Then, the concept was silent for a few years.

In 2004, the term web 2.0 was popularised by O’Reilly Media and MediaLive. They hosted the first Web 2.0 conference. During the opening session, John Batelle and Tim O’Reilly outlined their definition of the “Web as Platform,” where software applications are built upon the Web as opposed to upon the desktop. According to their remarks, the unique aspect of this sudden migration is that the customers are building the business for you. O’Reilly et al contrasted “Web 2.0 with Web 1.0.” They associated Web 2.0 with the business models of Netscape and Encyclopedia Britannica online.
Features of “Web 2.0”:

“Web 2.0” websites help the user to do more than just retrieve the information. They allow the users to run software-applications totally through a browser. They can also build interactive facilities to provide “Network as platform” computing.

“Web 2.0” sites facilitate the users to own and exercise complete control over the data. These sites encourage the users to add value to applications as they use them.

Bart Decrem, a founder and former CEO of Flock, considers “Web 2.0” as the “participatory Web,” and regards the web as the better source of information as Web 1.0.

Besides these, following are some of the additional features of “Web 2.0”:

* Rich user experience
* User participation
* Dynamic content
* Metadata
* Web standards,
* Scalability
* Openness
* Freedom
* Collective intelligence and
* Total user participation, can also be viewed as essential attributes of Web 2.0.

Technology Overview:

Web 2.0 combines the capabilities of client- and server-side software, content syndication and the use of network protocols. Standards-based web browsers use plugins and software extensions to manage the content and the user interactions. Web 2.0 sites provide users with information storage, creation, and distribution capabilities that were not possible in “Web 1.0″.

Besides these, Web 2.0 may typically include the following features and techniques:

Andrew McAfee  Uses the acronym (SLATES) for explaining these features and techniques:

* Search: Finding information through keyword search.
* Links: Connects information together into a meaningful information ecosystem using the model of the Web, and provides low-barrier social tools.
* Authoring: The ability to create and update content leads to the joint work of many rather than just a few web authors. In wikis, users can extend, undo and redo each other’s work. In blogs, posts and the comments of individuals build up over a period of time.
* Tags: Categorization of content by users adding one-word descriptions to facilitate searching, without dependence on pre-made categories. This is referred to as “folksonomy.”
* Extensions: Software that makes the Web an application platform as well as a document server.
* Signals: The use of syndication technology such as RSS to notify users of content change

How does it work:

The client-side/web browser technologies typically used in Web 2.0 development are Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax), Adobe Flash, and JavaScript/Ajax frameworks such as Yahoo! UI Library, Dojo Toolkit, MooTools, and jQuery.

JavaScript is used by Ajax programming to upload and download new data from the web server without reloading a full page. To continue the interaction of a user with the same page, communications such as the data requests send to the server are separated from the data coming back to the page. Otherwise, the user would have to routinely wait till the whole page gets reloaded. This also improves the perform of a page as the information request will be sent faster compared to the previous version of Web 1.0.

The data received by an Ajax will be formatted in XML or JSON. When this data is received through Ajax, the JavaScript program then uses the Document Object Model (DOM) to dynamically update the web page depending on the new data. These sites also allow for a rapid and interactive user experience.

In short, using these tips and techniques, the web designers can make  their web pages to function just like the desktop applications. For example, Google Docs uses a technique to create web-based word processor.

Adobe Flash is another added technology used in Web 2.0 applications. It’s capable of playing even audio and video files. This has led to the emergence of

www.youtube.com

where the video media is smoothly integrates itself with standard HTML. Besides, it has many capabilities which are not possible  in HTML.

Along with Flash and ajax, Javascript/Ajax frameworks have recently became a very popular means of creating a Web 2.0 sites.  Many of them come with customisable widgets to accomplish such common tasks as picking a date from the calender and displaying a data chart etc.

On the server side, Web 2.0 uses most of the same technologies as Web 1.0. Languages such as PHP, Ruby, ColdFusion, Perl, Python, and ASP.
Usage:

The popularity of the term Web 2.0 sites has led many in academia and business to embrace this technology. In addition, increasing use of Blogs, highly sophesticated sites, social networking technologies also contributed their own share in popularising this technology.

All these factors helped many in academia and business ubdated their data bases with Web 2.0 technology. As a result, every domain have their web site with 2.0 extention. For example:

Library 2.0, Social Work 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, PR 2.0, Classroom 2.0, Publishing 2.0, Medicine 2.0, Telco 2.0, Travel 2.0, Government 2.0, and even Porn 2.0.

Many web based and desktop applications:

Besides all the advantages mentioned, it also prompted for the origin of many web based and desktop applications. Many new internet applications were originated due to Web 2.0 technology. It has seen many new advancements such as RSS and Atom. Most of these are XML formats respectively.

Thus, the Web 2.0 can be reffered as the extention of Web 1.0. Besides, it’s the sophesticated technology in the current internet era.

In order to design and develop the web sites using the Web 2.0 technology, Dot Logic Web Solutions is rendering its valuable services in the areas of designing, development and training the students in this technology respectively. To know more details, log on to

Download Free Full Pc Games – Download Unlimited Computer Games

October 19th, 2009

Many people search the Internet for “free downloadable pc games”, “full pc game downloads” and even “legal download pc games” hoping to find some free sites offering full games for download.

Unfortunately entering a free site involves a few risks. Sometimes along with parts of the game you’ll be downloading dangerous viruses, spyware and adware. As you can see the “free” tag has its cost and if you’re not careful the worms can corrupt the Windows registry and endanger the files on your hard drive.

In time the computer will move very slowly and you won’t be able to download anything. Also if you loose important files you might never get them back. In case of crushes the repair will cost you from $100 to $1000 depending on the damage.

Despite that, sometimes you will use your entire bandwidth just to download a full game and in the end you discover that it’s just a trial copy, a pirated version or a corrupted file.

That’s why it’s recommended that you download online only from reliable sources. In exchange for a small fee you will be able to legally download movies, TV shows, games, software, videos, wii media, etc. the process involves no risks, no spyware, no adware and no viruses that will endanger your PC.

The Exciting Prospect Of Virtual Reality Computer Games

October 16th, 2009

You may have come across the phrase either in gaming forums of in science fiction, but exactly what is meant by virtual reality, what is it, and does it present us with any possible benefits or advantages in the future?

This phrase can be answered by either simply looking at the technology currently used, and understanding the basics of how it works, and what it tries to achieve. The more complex way of looking at this concept is by firstly asking what we understand by the word reality, before we try understanding the idea of an alternate, virtual version of reality.

Basically, if we understand the idea of reality to be the sum of all of the sensory inputs our brain receives, virtual reality is the use of technology to replace as many of those sensory inputs as possible with computer generated ones, to fool the brain into believing in a world which is false, and which only exists within the brain of the computer.

The most common form of virtual reality is one where the user wears a visor which wraps entirely round their normal field of vision. The computer then projects or displays a visual three dimensional world onto the inside f this visor, entirely replacing what the user would normally see with a computer generated view. The clever part of this is that the visor has a number of motion sensors built in to it, so that if the user turns their head, tilts their head, or moves their body entirely, the display inside the projector will move to match the user’s movement, creating the illusion of the user actually moving around within this three dimensional world of the computer’s.

Taking this idea further, the world may contain a number of objects, such as furniture, doors, objects that can be picked up and examined. By wearing special gloves which have a whole range of sensors built in to them, the computer can track the position, movement and actions of the user’s hands, and work out whether they would be touching anything, and if so, how the objects would react. Would they be being picked up, turned, knocked over and so forth?

By adding audio as well, the user can be very immersed within this world, and with advancing technologies making greater and more realistic computer generated scenes, the user can very easily start to believe in this virtual world, or reality.

One way in which this technology is an exciting area for development is within computer and video games, and already we are starting to see early developments of this with basic visors, and hand controls which are motion sensitive. Eventually we may well all find ourselves entering an alternative reality in which to play our games, which would make chase scenes, fights and cliff top adventures even more breath taking!

Magento VS Prestashop

October 16th, 2009

In this days of Open source ecommerce, After the power Magento, I got to know of another opensource ecommerce shopping cart software which seemed to inline with Magento’s principles of offering a top-notch ecommerce software for free and I have had the pleasure to test drive – and install in production environment – Prestashop, a simpler alternative, that serves ecommerce with a nice ajax animated shopping cart and various interesting features.

1)      Prestashop and Magento both e-commerce solutions are available under Open Software License (OSL).

2)      Prestashop Installation requirements are Depends on GD library of PHP. For magento installation need a lot of extensions like PDO, CURL etc…

3)      As per as functionality concern functional features like Customer groups ,Wish list, product comparison, RSS feed, TAG in magento e-commerce. Multiple store control is also a powerful feature of magento.  On the other hand statistics and membership these two functional features are available in prestashop e-commerce. For more functionality and features you can also hire magento programmer.

4)      There are not proper shipping and payment modules or any label printing option in prestashop. Magento contain all these features.

5)      Prestashop adopt smarty template engine based on PHP 5. If you see the code of prestashop you can find the code is much more, for it adopts smarty template, and increase the workload of extending development. Magento adopt Zend framework, not smarty template engine. For the programmer who is making extending development, they not only need to master PHP, but also need to handle Zend framework.

6)      Prestashop’s create impressive effect on search.  The search on their frontend appears faster than magento and is based on score to bring in relevance of search.

7)      Magento is much SEO friendly than prestashop.

8)      In the prestashop the upgrade strategy is not clearly defined.  The upgrade impact on existing customizations is unsure in prestashop.
